Black History Month Events

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we are excited to host several events throughout February that highlight Black culture, history, and contributions. We warmly invite you to take part in these engaging and educational opportunities:

Tuesday, February 11th – Virtual Presentation by Cheryl Foggo

  • We are honored to welcome Cheryl Foggo, an award-winning Canadian writer, filmmaker, and playwright, for a special virtual presentation. Cheryl’s work highlights Alberta’s Black pioneers and their contributions to Canadian history.

Wednesday, February 12th – Cultural Tasting (3:00–5:30 PM, LLT)

  • We invite LCI families to showcase their cultures through a potluck-style event! This is a wonderful opportunity to share and experience cultural dishes. If your family would like to participate by bringing a dish, please message Ms. Swanberg on Teams.

Thursday, February 13th – Film Viewing: Queen of Katwe (3:00–5:30 PM, LLT)

  • Join us for a screening of Queen of Katwe, an inspiring true story about a young Ugandan girl whose life changes when she discovers chess. Popcorn will be provided!

Tuesday, February 25th – Film Viewing: We Are the Roots (3:00–4:30 PM, LLT)

  • We invite students, their families, and staff to a screening of We Are the Roots, a powerful documentary about Black settlement in Alberta. Popcorn will be provided!

We encourage all students and families to participate and celebrate Black history with us. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your support in making this a meaningful celebration for our community!
