LCI Arts Academy Dance Program presentation thrills audiences
Inertia is the inaugural show of the new Arts Academy Dance Program at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. This showcase consists of LCI’s 55 arts academy dancers. The dancers are incredibly talented and will be performing ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, modern, tap and breakdancing.
This year, LCI will present pieces by well-known established Canadian choreographers such as Gemini award winning Allen Kaeja from Kaeja D’dance in Toronto, Andrea Spaziani, resident choreographer of Dancemakers in Toronto and Catherine Hayward of Decidedly Jazz in Calgary.
The show also consists of local guest choreographers from Lethbridge.
The LCI arts academy dance program is an auditioned dance program, and the only one like it in any high school in Lethbridge. The program offers a four-year comprehensive dance program for students in Grades 9-12.
The program is designed for dancers interested in broadening their dance experience in a technically and artistically challenging environment. Dancers study theory, anatomy and dance history to expand their understanding of the art form.
Regular guest artists and choreographers are an integral part of the program.
In addition, students are encouraged to find a voice of their own through learning the aspects of composing and choreographing works of their own.
The show opened May 15 and continues tonight, inside the Casa Community Room, with shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on May 16.
