Social 10-2, 20-2, 30-2 

SOCIAL STUDIES 10-2 [5 Credits]


The Social Studies 10-1 course is designed for students who experienced difficulty in Grade Nine Social Studies [under 65%]. It is a five credit course for students wishing to complete a high school diploma. It leads directly to Social Studies 20-1, and 30-1. Although the content, skills and attitudes are similar to Social Studies 10-1, the level of critical and creative thinking and inquiry skill development is not as challenging. The major topic examined is globalization, with a focus on the following major overlaying issue:

To what extent should we embrace globalization?

Four major subtopics will be explored to prepare the students to address this issue at the end of the course.  Evaluation includes written assignments, written and multiple choice exams, and mini essays.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES 20-2 [5 Credits]


{Prerequisite: Social Studies 10-1 or 10-2.}
This course is based on themes similar to those covered in Social Studies 20-1, but it has been designed for students who have experienced difficulty in Social Studies 10-1, or who have taken Social Studies 10-2. The major topic examined is nationalism, with a focus on the following major overlaying issue:

To what extent should we embrace nationalism?

Four major subtopics will be explored to prepare the students to address this issue at the end of the course.  Evaluation includes written assignments, written and multiple choice exams and mini-essays.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES 30-2 [5 Credits]
{Prerequisite: Social Studies 20-1 or 20-2.}


This course is based on themes similar to these covered in Social 30-1, but it is designed for students who experienced difficulty in Social Studies 20-1,or who have taken Social Studies 20-2.  The major topic examined is ideologies, with a focus on the following major overlaying issue:

To what extent should we embrace an ideology?

Four major subtopics will be explored to prepare the students to address this issue at the end of the course.  Evaluation includes written assignments, written and multiple choice exams, and mini-essays.
