INTRODUCTORY DESIGN STUDIES 1D
(5-6 Credits)

Every facet of our lives is influenced by Design: consumer products, advertising, our Homes, our Environment.
Introductory Design Studies focuses on Design skills Principles ofDesignand Processes and Applications of Design. Students will be introduced to graphic design, drafting the language of industry, multiview drawings, sectional views, pictorial drawings, developments, architectural drawing and blueprinting.
Students will study the Evolution of Design from Classic Architecture to Famous contemporary and Canadian Architects. They will study the design process and solve design problems. There will also be an introduction to computer aided drafting and design where students will complete floorplans. *dependent on computer/software availability. Emphasisis on practical work. Drawings, plans and projects make up most of the final grade. This is an excellent course to refine skills and develop and express creativity. All six modules must be complete for 6 credits.

INTERMEDIATE DESIGN STUDIES 2D
(DRAFTING)
(5-6 Credits per semester)

Students will concentrate on more in-depth technical and architectural applications where sections, elevations, pictorial design, auxiliary views, developments and intersections are covered. Students will refine previously developed skills in two and three dimensional design and demonstrate skill in planning and completing projects on various aspects of design. Students will learn rendering techniques to enhance architectural presentations. Some CADD will be done depending on computer/software availability.

ADVANCED DESIGN STUDIES 3D
(DRAFTING)(5-6 Credits per semester)

The advanced level of Design Studies consists of nineteen modules (each module is one credit) which expand upon design skills processes and applications and on drafting for Design and Technical drawing skills. Students will complete complex projects on design in two and three dimension and complete finished working drawings, models, presentations and explanatory drawings. Computer Aided Design will be continued, again depending on computers/software availability. Students should earn 5-6 credits in one semester.

N.B. Interested students could take Design Studies 3D both semesters earning 12 credits.
